Last Vegas post…

Woke up Sunday, we were going to go to a café at one of the other hotels, that Tom had heard was wonderful.  But Tom had rehearsal, and we didn’t’ have time to go there, and eat.  He had rehearsal at 11:00, a run through the show.  I was going to drive to one of the malls, and find my dress!

So we went back to Denny’s, ate and went our separate ways.

I punched in the address to the mall I wanted to go to.  My I-phone gave me directions.  On direction 3 out of 6, my phone blinked off and the apple sign came on.  That app. makes my iphone over heat!  I was screwed!  I drove around for an 45 minutes!  I went to an outlet mall, and asked where the mall was.  I was SOO close!  So I drove to the mall.  Headed to a couple of Dept stores and began to look.  I found a black dress!  I bought it!  I found a blouse!  I was so excited.  Then headed to the shoe store for shoes.  Success, in about an hour!

Drove back to the hotel.  Tom was napping.  It was after 3.   We were going to grab lunch, when I looked at my ticket and saw that you had to be in your seat by 4:30!  What??

So, Tom ran to subway, near the Denny’s, and grabbed a couple of sandwiches, while I got ready.  We made it to the show with 3 minutes to spare!  (Thank goodness for him being able to take the freight elevators, the musicians were allowed to use them, for time sake.  We were on the 28th floor!

He sat with me for a couple of numbers, and then went back stage for the rest of the show.  I sat with Koz’s wife Tammy.  Koz does sound for Reba, as well as work for Claire Brothers!  We had a blast!  Had great seats…sent out some tweets about the show.  It was so much fun to experience!

We left the show, went back to the hotel, to change, and headed to the after show.  Another perk of being with a band mate…got wristbands to the private area of the party.

Miranda Lambert sang,  as did Lady A, Dirks Bentley, and did so many more…

We stayed for about an hour, and then we had to go.  Tom had to catch a red-eye back to Nashville.  So I took him to the airport, went back to the hotel and went back to sleep.

Woke up the next morning for my drive back to LA to catch my plane.

So here I sit, on the plane…that is NOT full, relaxed and ready to get back home.

I had a fabulous time!  I got to spend time with my close dear friends!  I was able to relax, people watch, knit, rest somewhat, and breathe again.

I didn’t even really miss my kids.  I knew they were in amazing hands, and I knew I needed a break.

Am I excited to see them in a few hours?  You bet!!  I can’t wait!

Oh, and I will be going to a doctor about my knee…It just isn’t getting better…Ugh!

Vegas: Saturday night…

Where am I?

I am on a Southwest flight, headed back to Nashville.  My trip is coming to a close.

Some details of the last few days…

Saturday was an off day.  Tom had no rehearsal, blocking, nothing.  Which is exactly what we did…Nothing.

We thought we had slept in…checked at the clock:  8:00 am!

So once we got up, we walked to a Denny’s for breakfast.  Anything to save on some money in Vegas, especially breakfast.  So walked to breakfast.  Tom ordered his usual 3 egg white omelet with veggies, no cheese, and very little oil.  Oatmeal with raisins…no raisins, so he had cranberries.  Coffee and water.  ( He is so disciplined…)

I had my usual, 2 eggs OM, toast. and added a pancake so I could just have a bite.  Coffee and water.

After breakfast we drove around and looked for a place to shop.  Carolyn, Reba’s tour manager had asked if I wanted to go to the ACM’s and sit in the audience.

Well, yes I did, and no I hadn’t planned on it, so I had NOTHING to wear!

I wasn’t going to spend a ton of money on a dress or any kind of outfit, I just wanted something decent to wear.  I asked Carolyn where I was sitting, nosebleed section or floor, so I cold decide what I should wear.  Nosebleed section…you can wear jeans, cowboy boots, and a blouse.  Floor, at least some kind of black dress.  She texted me back and informed me floor!

Ugh!  So I went to several discount stores looking…nothing.

Maybe I just wouldn’t go…My knee is hurting me. ( I really hurt it about 5 or 6 weeks ago, slipping on a piece of ice on the floor of my kitchen!!  Not very exciting…not very graceful!!)

(It is not like the first time I hurt my knee when a group of girls jumped the fence to the downtown swimming pool to go midnight swimming…Oops, did I say that?  I didn’t’ even get in trouble for it, because my parents at first didn’t believe my story, since it sounded so bizarre…and since I told them the truth…  It is what kids in Steamboat had been doing for decades!!)

Anyway, back to Vegas…

So, Tom found a shirt and a pair of shorts.  I found a pair of shorts and a summer dress.  Nothing for Sunday night.

We went back to the hotel, to rest and make our plans for dinner.

Once again we opted to head off the strip.   Thank you car!!   We went to a Mexican Restaurant that we had been to last year.  It was called,

Lindo Michoacanwww.lindomichoacan.com

Amazing food.  Where they make fresh guacamole right in front of you.

We had the address, put it in the Iphone GPS thing, and headed out.  It wasn’t’ far…

That blasted map thing, took us to a neighborhood!  No restaurant in site!

And is wasn’t human error.  We checked the address.  So we called and after going the wrong way a few more times, we finally pulled in, got a table and enjoyed a fabulous meal!!

On the way home, we found a CVS pharmacy and I picked up a hair brush.  Mmmmm, my children had taken MY hairbrush.  Now it is nowhere to be found.  I thought Tom had one…no his hair is too short…he doesn’t need one.  So I picked one up as well as a Toblerone chocolate bar for Tom.  His free day…

We got back to the hotel, saw many people from Nashville and hung out and talked with them.  We went up stairs, well, Tom took me back to the room.  I was exhausted.  He opted to go back downstairs and chat with more peeps from Nashville.

I took a shower, because UNLIKE Nashville, where smoking is prohibited almost everywhere!   It is NOT in Vegas, so one trip through the casino and you smell like an ashtray!

Took a shower and did a little knitting, until I fell asleep….

My Trip to Vegas…The flight.

I am sitting at the airport baggage claim area in Los Angeles.  It is about 8:45.  I have another hour until I surprise my husband that I am here a day early!

I was supposed to fly here tomorrow morning, but after much thinking  and pondering and having a mini break down, I decided, late last night, I was either going to not go at all, or say screw it and pay the extra money and take the flight the night before.

Instead of flying direct into Las Vegas, I had decided that I would fly to Los Angeles.  Because of the ACM’s, I knew that the flights in and out of Las Vegas would be full the 2 days before the ACM’s and 2 days after the ACM’s.  Tom has to take a red-eye back to Nashville right after the ACM’s, so I will go back to LA and spend a day with my dear friend Lauren.

I am renting a car and driving to Vegas.

Tom is flying in from Hawaii tonight.  He was supposed to fly to vegas but, when I decided to go, he opted to drive with me.  The problem…he has a rehearsal in Vegas, Friday at 6:00 and has to be there by 5:45.  The original flight I booked was for Friday morning and it didn’t get in until 1:45,  so I changed my flight to the 6:30 flight with a plane change in Chicago, arriving at 11:30 LA time…7 hours from start to finish!!  Then add a 4-6 hour drive, depending on the traffic…

A few days before my flight, I began to stress… I couldn’t take a chance of him being late…so it was either drive myself, not go, or arrive the evening before.

Well, I was going to just bag the whole thing, but after mentally breaking down last night, Wednesday night, from lack of sleep, stress of all the kids and running here there and everywhere for them, lack of sleep, and not seeing Tom most of this month…I opted for door number 3!!

So, I called one of my best friends, Teddy, and asked her how much it would cost to change my flight, if I could even do it…all that jazz.  Then I called many of my other amazing best friends that are stepping up to help and watch my children!

Angels…that’s what they are, angels!!

So I ran to the store, and bought a few groceries, withdrew some money for the weekend.  Spend the morning doing laundry.  I came home, took out my clothes, packed stuff…what I packed,  I am not sure of.

Kissed most of my kidlets, execpt for Rowan, who was sleeping…, goodbye!

And I was off!

I had to put gas in my car, so I stopped in the little market.  Of course the 2 sweet ladies that work there chatted with me for a few…

I then was off again, and got behind a S L O W dump truck on River road.  Then got stuck in traffic on 440….Ugh

I was supposed to be there at 3:30…I got there about 4:05.  Teddy printed out my ticket and I raced through security and down to the gate.  I got on the plane and just chilled…

It was a 5 hour flight.  Actually, we got in a 1/2 an hour early.  That was direct!!

I took the shuttle from Southwest to American.  And now I sit.  I wait until about 9:45 or so.

I am sitting here in the baggage area of American, watching people.  I am enjoying all the styles of clothes.  Watching the little girl play with her dad, while they are waiting for family.  Watching families hug as they are reunited!

It is the coolest.  There is a guy sleeping.  Has been since I got here an hour ago.  People sitting on the carousel chatting, waiting for other loved ones, or waiting to be picked up.  Ahhh, the sights and sounds…there is a little boy watching a dvd.

I think I am most amazed at the shoes.  I am dumbfounded at the HIGH heels that many women wear when they are at the airport!  Whew, I would kill myself if I even attempted to wear them!

So I wait…More people walk past me, keeping me entertained.

I love airports…I know it’s strange, but it is a fantastic place to just sit and watch people.  How they interact, what they act like when they are alone, with loved ones, family, strangers.  It is quite an education.

Finally, the time has come and Tom’s plane had arrived.  I remained in my chair.  I saw several of the band guys pass by, HEADED toward carousel 1 right in front of me.  I looke over to my right just as Tom was passing by, and he had to do a double take, and stopped in his tracks and with a huge smile asked, “What are you doing here?”

It was great!
